ABOUT EFFINGHAM
The City of Effingham is a rapidly growing community in southcentral Illinois. It is located about 3 1/2 hours south of Chicago, 2 hours west of Indianapolis, and 1 1/2 hours east of St Louis. Although the population indicates only 14,000 wihtin the city limits, the town feels much bigger. Most of that feel is related to the incredible traffic passing through the City via Interstates 57 & 70. Those routes alone carry over 8 million vehicles per year through the City of Effingham. Effingham serves as a regional hub for business and commerce as is evidenced by the retail sales figures being far greater than expected of city the size of Effingham.

The Chamber of Commerce indicates that a recent edition of Site Selection Magazine lists the City of Effingham as on of the top ten small towns in the US for companies who want to provide a better quality of life for their employees. The City has three main water sources and can serve practically any industry that elects to locate here.

SCHOOLS
The education system is unparallelled. In school crime is very low. All schools provide a wide range extracurricular activities ranging from athletics, to music, to film making, to clubs, drama productions, etc. Education excellence abounds in Effingham Public Schools and St Anthony Private Schools and Sacred Heart Private Schools thru 8th grade. The surrounding communities offer an equal level of education. Teutopolis Schools cover the areas to the east of Effingham. Altamont Schools cover teh areas to teh west of Effingham. Beecher City Schools host students living to the Northwest of Effingham. And Dieterich Schools serve students living to the Southwest of Effingham.
MEDICAL COMMUNITY
The medical facilities of Effingham serve central and southern Illinois as well as neighboring states, with over 25 medical specialties. The medical community is one of Effinghams largest employers and growing steadily. The St Anthony Hospital is a regional care center providing a full range of medical services. The medical staff consists of 80 local physicians, 860 empoyees, and more than 250 volunteers. The emergency services department is staffed around the clock, seven days a week. More than 25 sergeons serve the area specializing in general surgery, plastic surgery, and everything in between. The Crossroads Cancer Center opened in 1998 and offers some of the best care and physicians in the country. Effiingham is home to Bonutti Clinic which provides orthopedic and rehabilitation services for persons throughout midwest. The Prairie Heart Institute is also located in Effingham. A Veterans Affairs Clinic is also located in Effingham, and serves the regions veterans. The Effingham County Health Department has been providing services to the surrounding areas for over 55 years. Their primary goal is to passure that quality services and education in the area of public health, including peresonal and environmental health, are readily available and accessible to residents of Effingham County.
